I’m Barb, photography enthusiast, lover of Lightroom, and former Photoshop instructor with a passion for still life photography. I’ve been practising still life photography for over 10 years and am especially in love with flat lay images.
I’m a small player in the photography background biz world, but I love what I’m doing and I love sharing it with you.
My goal is to help your content shine. I want my backgrounds to be the supporting actor and your product be the star.

I’m the designer, digital creator, photographer, blogger, editor, and administrator for this website, but whenever you see a “we” or an “our” anywhere, that would be me referring to my hubby (my supporter, advisor, CFO, shipper, and the doer of ALL the things I don’t love doing : )
My home is Canada where I live with my husband in our beautiful little dream home on a small lake, surrounded by nature, and close to family and long-time friends. Hubby and I now spend winters in beautiful, sunny Arizona where we explore, bike, shop, and eat (a lot ; ). We’re usually in Arizona from November to March which impacts shipping to Canada during the winter. Check out my FAQ page for more information.
How “Backgrounds by Barb” Started
My fascination with printed vinyl backgrounds began in 2018 when I became tired of hauling around heavy wooden backgrounds and standing on tables in order to get that perfect shot. The day I fell off a step ladder while hovering over a tabletop, I decided something had to change!
I first experimented with a piece of wallpaper laid out on the floor and it worked beautifully, but in a very short time it became smudged and torn. After a bit of research, I had one of my own photos printed on vinyl and “Chippy White Paint” was created. You can read more about it on my post “Vinyl Photography Backgrounds“.
When I posted images on Instagram and revealed I was using a vinyl background, I had so many people message me to see if they could buy one, I ended up creating “Backgrounds by Barb”.
