Summer Simplicities

Hello friends!

As soon as my hip surgery is over and I’m able to get around (which should be at least by the end of July), I have many more dreams. They may be ambitious but I’m determined to get back to doing the things I love most—like picking pretty bouquets from our local flower farm and taking photos.

Things I plan to do when I’ve recovered

  • Set up and photograph flat lays. I have big plans and I cannot wait to bring new backgrounds to my Shop later this year.
  • Have family visits! since all my health problems began we haven’t been able to get together as much as I had hoped. Every time I had an appointment and now a surgery date, no one wants to bring me Covid .. it makes me incredibly sad. But as soon as I’m literally back on my feet ..
  • Take trips. As I haven’t been able to sit comfortably, I can’t be in the car for more than an hour or so.
  • Visit greenhouses and shop for mid-season clearance items, or for new arrivals such as late summer coneflowers, huge pots of mums, and dazzling dahlias. I used to restrict my flower purchases to spring, but now stores like Home Depot are bringing in fresh pots (and ideas) daily. I’ll have to get my hubby to carry them all but he’s a super trooper and my biggest supporter.
  • Visit Farmers Markets for fresh veggies, berries, and fruits … these days a person doesn’t have to have a garden to enjoy the bounty that surrounds us and I cannot wait to get my hands on the August/September bounty that awaits.
  • Shop local craft stores and/or attend markets.
  • Shop the ditches!! I’m surrounded by wildflowers that make the most amazing bouquets! As well as Oxeye Daisies, we have tansy, fireweed, cow parsley, clover, purple vetch, chamomile, and grasses, all growing with wild abandon. Just a word of caution though—you might want to check a wildflower guide or search online to make sure it’s OK to pick a certain species. On my foraging adventures I also used to see wild orchids and tiger lilies and I am well aware they are not to be picked. Not only is it illegal, but it’s also just not right. Everything I pick is a “noxious weed”.
  • Make Chokecherry Jelly in September. I’m hoping beyond hope that I can once again stand in the kitchen and make jellies, jams, and pickles. It’s one of my favourite things to do .. so satisfying.
  • Make Rhubarb Oat Bars .. the recipe is in on my daughters’ blog and I haven’t been able to spend much time in the kitchen.
  • Make homemade ice cream to go with the rhubarb bars.

We’ll see how it goes but I’m very hopeful. Thank you for being here xo

  1. I’m sure you’re doing great with your recovery. I do miss blogging. But I have been journaling which no one should read that! I’m anxious to see your new backgrounds. I’m getting a bigger studio built in the barn, yea! So I’ll have a dedicated spot for shoots. Keep those dreams going Barb!
